A Measured Reflection on Vyasa-asana Maryada
In the Sanatana tradition, the Vyasa-asana has always been revered as the seat of Sri Vedavyasa, symbolizing the authority of Dharma-Granthas and shastras rather than the status of the individual speaker. The custom of not exchanging praṇama while seated was instituted to safeguard this principle, ensuring that scripture remains higher than personality. Nowadays, most speakers either do not know this or do not wish to acknowledge it. They have forgotten the eternal rule of Sanatana Dharma: humility before self-pride.
When reverence is due to a senior saint or guru, whose spiritual stature itself commands honour, the tradition offers a natural and dignified resolution: the individual speaker may step down from the seat and then express humility through praṇama. In this way, the sanctity of the seat is preserved, while humility and guru-bhakti are fully embodied.
The acharya-Parampara of Sanatana Dharma has been equally clear that this maryada was never intended to diminish humility, reverence for saints, or devotion to the guru. When the external form of a rule begins to overshadow its inner spirit, there arises a subtle risk that what was meant to dissolve ego may, unintentionally, shelter it.
Traditionally, great teachers resolved this balance with ease. They upheld the dignity of the sacred seat during exposition; and upon the arrival of a reverent saint, they descended from it at the right moment and immediately expressed humility through praṇama, courtesy, and openness. Thus, the seat remained exalted, while the person consciously remained small.
If, however, the rule is observed in a manner that creates distance, discourages reverence toward senior saints, or appears to place the speaker beyond ordinary courtesies, it invites quiet reflection. Such an outcome would not align with the Bhagavata spirit, wherein knowledge is affirmed not by position, but by humility.
Preserving Vyasa-asana maryada therefore requires both restraint and self-effacement. Where humility deepens, Vyasa is present. Where ego grows, the seat may remain, but its meaning quietly departs.
Characteristics of a Guru.
According to the Veda, Gita, and Bhagavatam, a true Guru must possess scriptural mastery (Shastra-jna), adherence to an authentic lineage (Parampara), direct realization (Tattva-darshi / Brahma-nistha), and steadiness in Brahman (Bhagavan), along with self-control and inner purity, freedom from greed and ego, compassion, a peaceful and detached nature, and the ability to guide and instruct clearly. Scripture never says that birth makes a Guru, ashram makes a Guru, dress makes a Guru, or popularity makes a Guru. It is pertinent to mention here that if someone has scholarship but no realization, they are not complete; if they have realization but no shastric knowledge, they are not complete; and if they have knowledge, realization, but no purity, they are not complete- the scriptures demand all three.

Dharma-Granthas and Shastra.
Shastra = Texts that explain rules, principles, and true knowledge.
Dharma-Granthas = Texts that teach righteous conduct, devotion, and worship.
Shastra = Systematic knowledge + moral conduct & discipline.
Scripture = Sacred revelation + divine authority.
In summary, Scripture is a subset of Shastra distinguished by sacred revelation and divine authority, but Sastra is a broader category that includes any systematic body of knowledge or teaching in Sanatana Dharma.
Establishment of a Pitha in Sanatana Dharma
In Sanatan Dharma, establishing a Piṭha requires adherence to Shastra, sacred land, proper rituals, an authorized Guru, and unbroken lineage. Beyond these essentials, it demands adhikara (spiritual qualification), nitya-aradhana (daily worship), ethical conduct, continuity of tradition, and lokasaṅgraha (welfare of the world). Ultimately, a Piṭha endures not merely through rituals, but through tapas (austerity), dharma, and living truth.
व्यास-आसन की मर्यादा
(व्यासासन)
सनातन परम्परा में व्यास-आसन सदा श्री वेदव्यास के आसन के रूप में पूज्य माना गया है। यह शास्त्र की प्रतिष्ठा का प्रतीक है, न कि प्रवचनकर्ता के व्यक्तिगत पद या महत्त्व का। आसन पर विराजमान होकर प्रणाम का आदान-प्रदान न करने की मर्यादा इसी भाव से स्थापित हुई, ताकि शास्त्र व्यक्तित्व से ऊपर बना रहे।
जहाँ किसी वरिष्ठ संत या गुरु के प्रति प्रणाम एवं सम्मान अपेक्षित हो, वहाँ परम्परा स्वयं एक सहज समाधान प्रस्तुत करती है, प्रवचनकर्ता आसन से उतरकर प्रणाम कर सकता है। इससे न तो आसन की गरिमा क्षीण होती है और न ही गुरु-भक्ति या संत-सम्मान में कोई व्यवधान आता है।
सनातन आचार्य-परम्परा स्पष्ट करती है कि यह मर्यादा कभी भी विनय, संत-सम्मान अथवा गुरु-भक्ति को सीमित करने हेतु नहीं थी। जब किसी नियम का बाह्य रूप उसके आन्तरिक भाव से अधिक प्रभावी हो जाए, तब यह आशंका उत्पन्न होती है कि जो व्यवस्था शास्त्र-मर्यादा के संरक्षण हेतु थी, वही जाने-अनजाने में अहंकार का आश्रय बन जाती है।
परम्परागत रूप से महान आचार्यों ने इस संतुलन को सहजता से साधा। उन्होंने व्याख्यान के दौरान पवित्र आसन की गरिमा का पालन किया; और किसी पूज्य संत के आगमन पर, उन्होंने समुचित समय पर आसन से उतरकर तत्काल प्रणाम, शिष्टाचार तथा सरलता द्वारा विनय व्यक्त किया। इस प्रकार आसन ऊँचा रहा, जबकि व्यक्ति स्वयं को सचेत रूप से छोटा रखा।
यदि यह मर्यादा ऐसे ढंग से निभाई जाए जिससे वरिष्ठ संतों के प्रति सम्मान में दूरी उत्पन्न हो, सामान्य शिष्टाचार बाधित हो, अथवा प्रवचनकर्ता स्वयं को इन सबसे ऊपर प्रतीत कराने लगे, तो यह आत्मचिन्तन का विषय बन जाता है। ऐसा स्वरूप भागवत-परम्परा की उस भावना से पूर्णतः सामंजस्य नहीं रखता, जहाँ ज्ञान की कसौटी पद नहीं, विनय है।
अतः इस आसन की मर्यादा का संरक्षण संयम और आत्म-विसर्जन, दोनों से होता है। जहाँ विनय बढ़ता है, वहाँ व्यास की उपस्थिति अनुभव होती है; और जहाँ अहंकार बढ़ता है, वहाँ आसन तो रह सकता है, पर उसका अर्थ धीरे-धीरे विलुप्त हो जाता है।
शास्त्र-धर्मग्रन्थ।
शास्त्र = नियम, तत्त्व और ज्ञान बताने वाले ग्रन्थ।
धर्मग्रन्थ = धर्म-आचरण, भक्ति और उपासना सिखाने वाले ग्रन्थ।
शास्त्र = व्यवस्थित ज्ञान + नैतिक आचरण तथा अनुशासन।
धर्मग्रन्थ (Scripture) = पवित्र ईश्वरीय लीला-प्रकाशन एवं दिव्य अधिकार से प्रमाणित ग्रन्थ।
शास्त्रार्थबोधयोग्यता
शास्त्रार्थबोधाय विवेकयुक्ता
सूक्ष्मा बुद्धिर्विज्ञानयुक्ता ।
युक्तिप्रधाना विशदा बुद्धिः
तद्विना न सिद्ध्येत् गूढार्थगतिः॥

Dear devotee, do not despair,
The Lord is near, His grace is there.
Though trials rise and shadows fall,
His unseen hand sustains through all.
In sorrow’s night when tears may flow,
And winds of hardship fiercely blow,
Be calm in heart, be firm, be strong—
Your pain will not endure for long.
Each struggle shapes the soul within,
And purifies from fear and sin.
No tear is lost, no prayer unheard,
Each sigh is known unto the Lord.
Walk on with faith through every story,
Beyond the dust awaits true glory.
Your final chapter, bright and free,
Will end in bliss eternally.

When the Guardian Is Gone
When the teacher is away from sight,
The wicked swell in shadowed might;
They strut with haughty, brazen tone,
As if the school were theirs alone.
They warp the truth, they break the rule,
They scorn the meek, and make men fools.
The kind, the pure, the disciplined one,
Thrust aside and beaten down like a swan.
So too, when God’s light fades from earth,
When true saints fade from mortal birth,
The sinners rise with hearts of stone,
And rule and rend the world alone.
With pride they march, with malice burn,
From dharma’s path they all return;
They cheat the just, they wound the fair,
And cloak the world in dark despair.
Thus heed this law, both old and deep:
When guardians sleep, the wolves shall creep.
Where wisdom, dharma, faith are lost,
The righteous innocent pay the cost.

The Guru
Between the shore where deep darkness lies,
And Brahman’s boundless, starlit sky,
The Guru kindles the inward sight,
And leads the wandering soul to light.
From tamas to jyoti, step by step,
The Guru lifts the soul from slave;
Sadguru stands firm in inner light,
Awake in Brahman’s endless light,
The Yog Guru guides the seeking soul,
To meet the Supreme, its destined goal.
While Jagadguru, calm and wise,
Guides all the universe beneath the skies.
In silence bright, where truths unfold,
The Guru guides disciples to liberation bold.
The Guru guides, beyond liberation,
To merge with God—the culmination.

Who Is the Guru?
Not by birth, nor robe, nor seat of pride,
Not by crowds that gather at his side,
Not by fame that echoes loud and far-
None reveal the Guru, the guiding star.
The Vedas whisper, the Gita proclaims with might,
The Bhagavatam kindles the inner light:
Shsstra-jña- in scriptures deeply trained,
Yet lives the Truth his wisdom gained.
Tattva-darshi- seer of the Real,
Brahman realized - not thought, but living zeal;
Truth not borrowed from distant voice,
But soul-awakened, conscious choice.
Master of senses, tranquil, pure within,
Ego dissolved like mist grown thin;
Untouched by greed, by sin unbound,
In inner stillness, peace profound.
Compassion flows from moonlike eyes,
Cooling hearts where sorrow lies;
Steady in Brahman, firm, unmoved,
In silent Presence ever proved.
Detached yet kind, from mind’s knots free,
No thirst for fame or vanity;
No ashram crowns, no garment makes the sage,
No throne of praise creates the sacred stage.
The true Guru living flame of Truth’s bright form,
Where knowledge and realization unite and transform.

God is Creator of all that is,
The source of life, of cosmic bliss.
God is Sustainer of all that lives,
A silent grace that ever gives.
God is the One where all streams end,
Beyond all forms and fleeting dreams.
To know this truth deep in the soul
Is true knowledge, makes one whole.

The Purity of True Knowledge
God said: no treasure shines so bright,
As knowledge pure, the soul’s true light.
When yogis pure in heart attain,
Truth is revealed by God again.
No flame so pure, no vision clear,
Dispels the night of doubt and fear.
It fills the heart with inner light,
A truth long veiled now comes to light.
Not gained by words nor fleeting art,
Nor born where restless passions start.
But in the depths of tranquil will,
It dawns when mind and breath are still.
One who walks the inward way,
Where mind and thought in silent purity stay.
In yoga deep, with spirit aligned,
Finds living truth within the mind.
When self and God no more divide,
And ego’s fleeting shadows slide,
Then knowledge pure begins to rise,
A living truth the soul realizes.
No outer proof is needed then,
Nor borrowed thoughts of other men.
For one who dwells in union true,
Sees all sustained by One, in sacred view.

For worship there is no time,

God only sees devotion, not time-

He only sees respect hidden in the wrapper,

No costly gifts or rituals please;
A humble heart bowed down in prayer
Brings the Lord to dwell and hear.
So worship not by hour or art,
But with a pure and faithful heart;
Where love and reverence shine in heart,
There begins true worship, devotion’s start.

What is woven out of threads of lies
Shines for a moment - then slowly dies.
Its colors fade, its strength is small,
Built on shadows, it must fall.
Falsehood fashions learning’s art,
Education bright- yet void at heart;
For wisdom wrapped in deceitful thread
Is living light - yet already dead.
A king who builds his throne on lies
May dazzle crowds and seem so wise;
Yet time unveils the hidden flaw -
His crown shall break by justice’s law.
A kingdom raised on falsehood’s ground
May glitter wide with trumpet sound;
But hidden cracks beneath the hall
Will topple power, proud and tall.
But cloth of truth, though plain it seems,
Glows with light beyond all dreams.
No storm can tear, no fire consume,
It carries peace, it banishes gloom.
Truth may walk a silent way,
Yet brings calm dawn after night’s gray.
So weave your life with threads of light,
With honest word and vision bright.
For what is born of truth shall stand,
In peace of soul - forever grand.

Right Conduct
Do not laugh when another falls,
For every soul bears unseen calls.
Do not defame with careless speech,
For words can wound beyond all reach.
If you must criticize, do it for good,
As a healer would, not one who stood.
And when in doubt, consult with care,
With pure intent and honest prayer.
For kindness is the path we tread,
And righteousness the light ahead.
Speak truth with grace, avoid the lie,
For falsehood dims the inner eye.
Help the weary without a claim,
In selfless acts, kindle the flame.
Forgive the fault, as you would be freed,
From chains of anger, sow the seed of peace.
Honor the elder, love and guide the young,
Let harmony blossom, peace-song be sung.
Thus walk in Dharma, pure and bright,
Your conduct leads to endless light.

The Upholding of Dharma
All ask me, “Where have you learned?”
I reply, “From all that I have seen-
From there my lessons I have learned.”
Lord Ram came, fulfilled his sacred duty;
Lord Krishna came, acted just as truly.
Tell me, Without action, without duty,
How can my Dharma be earned truly?

In the Guise of Dharma
They explain Dharma in their own way,
To uplift their image and suit their way.
They trample Dharma’s eternal core,
Yet wear the garb that saints once wore;
With pious speech and crooked art,
They hide the poison in their heart.
They name their sins as “sacred will,”
And drag the Divine to bless their ill;
Before each crime, they falsely claim,
“God Himself ordained this game.”
Blinded by ignorance and ego, deaf to truth,
They chase the shadow, shun the proof;
What seems to them as heaven’s light,
Is but the veil of endless night.
Not righteous are these men, misled-
By pride and greed they all are led;
Their merit fades, their virtue dies,
As death and darkness slowly rise.
Thus heed this law, O wandering soul-
God dwells with truth, not untruth's dole.
Where Dharma breaks and falsehood reigns,
There sin and misery walk in chains.

Misguided in the Name of God
Those who violate eternal Dharma’s way,
Yet boast of righteousness night and day,
They cloak their sins in sacred dress,
And call their falsehood “godliness.”
In every wrongful deed they claim,
“The Lord Himself inspires our aim.”
They drag the Divine into their sin,
And think salvation lies therein.
Blinded by pride, they cannot see
How far they drift from truth's decree.
What they call light is deepest night,
What they call truth is void of sight.
No, they are not the righteous band-
They wander lost in desert sand.
Their fortune fades, their spirit falls,
For death and darkness softly calls.
They are not virtuous; not devoted to God.
They are misguided in the name of the Lord.

As One Sees, So God Appears
When God on earth in human form did stay,
Yet few could see His truth in mortal clay.
Some hearts awoke and knew His form divine,
And felt His presence radiant, pure, sublime.
By His own word, His glory stood revealed,
And faith in Him within their souls was sealed.
They bowed in love, their vision clear and bright,
And sensed His fragrance filled with sacred light.
But others saw a man of common birth,
And mocked His name, unaware of worth.
Their clouded minds, in ignorance confined,
Perceived no grace, no truth their hearts could find.
Thus lives this tale upon the earthly span-
God seen as God, or merely seen as man.
As is the heart, so is the sight we frame:
One finds the truth, another mocks the same.

The Body and the Soul
When the house is worn, unfit to stay,
Its dwellers leave and go away.
So when the body fails its role,
The Self departs-the deathless soul.
When walls are cracked, beyond repair,
The house dissolves in dust and air.
So too the living body, weak or old,
Returns to dust, since it cannot hold.
No hand can shape that form again,
No life returns to mortal frame.
This is the truth the Divine declares-
The Eternal Law that all life shares;
Nothing beyond this stands as right,
All else is shadow, veiled from sight.

Earth: Virtuous and Sinners
I
Sinners do not wish to leave this earth;
Again and yet again they crave rebirth.
They cling to trembling, transient, mortal sod,
In secret dread to meet the face of God.
They bind their souls to dust and fleeting clay,
And shudder at the hour they slip away.
II
But virtuous hearts, serene and ever free,
Grow weary of this veil of mortality.
They yearn to cross the silent, boundless shore,
Where birth and sorrow haunt the soul no more.
III
Yet if the righteous leave this world too soon,
If sacred lamps expire before high noon,
This earth would sink in shadow’s somber spell-
A radiant realm that darkens into hell.
No temple chants, no consecrated bell,
No holy truths the ancient scriptures tell.
When faith grows faint and prayers turn cold as stone,
Who walks the path the saints have clearly shown?

So let the pure a little longer stay,
To teach, to guide, to bless, to light the way.
For while one virtuous soul on earth abides,
The living light of Dharma still presides.

When Religion Forgets Its Eternal Essence
(The Essence of True Religion)
When any religion loses its eternal essence,
It slowly becomes a matter of mere occasions.
The followers drift away from the true way;
And when their ages pass, they are swept away.
Hence,one should follow the path of true religion,
So the soul may return to its desired pavilion.

When Religion Loses Its Sanctity
Just as a river, once deep and wide,
Turns into dust when its streams have died,
So too does faith, when truth departs,
Grow faint and hollow in human hearts.
When it loses divine laws, pure and free,
Its purity fades in silence-none can see.
When form remains but the soul is gone,
Its sacred light no longer shines on.
Rituals linger, but love and devotion fade,
Like shadows cast where light once played.
The words are spoken, the acts are done,
Yet lack the warmth of the inner sun.
For true religion is not mere name,
Nor rigid rule, nor outward claim;
Its life resides in the spirit’s flame,
In truth, in love-forever the same.
When essence lives, it shines so bright,
A guiding force, a path of light;
But drained of soul, it cannot remain-
A lifeless form, an empty frame.

Unity of the Divine
By different names, the One is called,
Through varied paths, yet One for all.
In Krishna’s flute, the cosmos sings,
In Allah’s will, creation springs.
In Krishna, love and Lila shine,
In God, grace and truth divine.
Different tongues, yet truth the same,
One eternal, many a name.
Balabhadra stands in strength and light,
Guiding souls on paths of right.
In Jesus Christ’s sacrifice we see
Love, compassion, and humility.
Paths are many, the goal is One,
Like countless rays from a single sun.
Let not division cloud the sight-
All seek the same eternal Light.
